下一版 Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot 正式進入開發階段，根據Ubuntu開發計劃第一個 Alpha 將於 6 月 2 日發布。而根據消息稱，Gnome3 已正式進入 Ubuntu 11.10 官方源了，同時一些 GTK+2 組件也已升級到了 GTK +3 ，包括：

- policykit-1-gnome (0.99-1ubuntu4) to 0.101-2ubuntu2

另外，為了更好的讓主題兼容於 Gtk+ 3.0 ，Ubuntu 11.10 中正式采用了新的 Unico theme engine ，取代原來使用的 Murrine theme engine 。同時，Ubuntu 開發人員已經在為 Gnome 3 定制 Ambiance Theme 了，以便讓其更進一步整合入 Ubuntu 中。
