美國能源部橡樹嶺國家實驗室（ORNL）正在計劃組建一部名為Baker的超級計算機，它將
采用約2.4萬顆2.6GHz的四核Opteron處理器！
ORNL副總裁Thomas Zacharia在近日的超級計算機與通信大會上表示：預計2008年完成的Baker超級計算機將擁有2.4萬顆2.6GHz四核心Opteron處理器，安放在187個液冷機架中，同時搭配400TB內存和11PB硬盤（1PB=1024TB=1048576GB）。
屆時Baker將成為第一個計算能力突破1000萬億次運算每秒（PetaFLOP）的超級計算機，而目前最快的超級計算機“藍色基因”也只有350萬億次運算每秒（TeraFLOPS）。不過，IBM公司也在計劃到2008年的時候將藍色基因的能力提高到PetaFLOP級別。

Baker系統運行將需要專門的能源供應，田納西流域電力部門稱：將為該系統及ORNL的附屬項目專門建立一座1700兆瓦特的發電站。
