不知道什麼原因，我的筆記本在Ubuntu 7.10仍然不能支持3D ，但是按照本文的步驟，可以打開3D桌面特效了。
我是Intel X3100繼承顯卡（GM965芯片的），網上查了半天，沒看到有Ubuntu7.10的驅動。後來找到一篇文章，是Dell的Linux Wiki上寫的
The PCI ID (8086:2a02) for the Intel 965GM video controller has been black-listed by Compiz-Fusion Manager in Ubuntu Linux 7.10. Reason for this is that the 965GM chip doesn’t support the necessary pieces for video to work without using EXA accelerated architecture, which is something Ubuntu Linux 7.10 does not support.
可見Ubuntu 7.10是因為X3100顯卡必須使用EXA加速架構，而Ubuntu不支持EXA，所以暫時不能使用這款顯卡了。希望能在不久的將來Ubuntu能支持這款顯卡。但是我們可以修改一下系統配置文件，使Ubuntu能開啟桌面特效。
但是這麼修改的後果是某些電影播放軟件不能用默認的顯示引擎渲染，只能改用X11引擎。
下面是解決方法：
首先備份一下配置文件
sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.back
然後修改一下xorg.conf的配置
sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
找到所有的Section “Device”段
將該段內的Driver設置為“Intel”， 保存。
然後卸載掉現在的驅動
sudo apt-get remove xserver-xorg-video-intel
再安裝驅動
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel
配置顯卡
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
在彈出的界面中選擇顯卡品牌，屏幕分辨率等參數。
再執行下列命令，修改compiz的配置
sudo gedit /etc/xdg/compiz/compiz-manager
新起一行，增加SKIP_CHECKS=yes， 保存
執行sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
安裝compiz的配置管理器
之後重啟系統。然後就能在System/Preferences/Appearance中打開顯示特效了。我開的Normal。
有人說一上來選擇Extra不行，需要現開Normal，成功後再改成Extra就可以了。
第二種方法是
打開/usr/bin/compiz
找到# blacklist based on the pci ids
T=”$T 8086:2982 8086:2992 8086:29a2 8086:2a02 8086:2a12″ # intel 965
將改行注視掉， 保存
然後在System/Administration/Screens And Graphics下選擇顯卡驅動為Intel - Experimental Modesetting Driver For Linux，確定後重啟。
但是我這麼做後會發現輸入法沒有了。不知怎麼回事。
我是按照第一種方法做的。
